21 Hours in

Strangely this year, writing wasn't an issue. Once we got our category we had 8 writers brainstorm and produce scripts within an hour. Once the final script was chosen, we immediately went to location, and started shooting. Ended up being slightly overstaffed, so I was pushed out of lighting (thats fine with me!) and ended up on Audio. After 12 Grueling hours of holding a Boom, and listening for any clicks, pops, hums, or farts, I headed home. The director will be importing the film and bringing it to us for editing, so I need to take this time to sleep. see you in 23 hours!

48 Hour Film Festival

The 48 Hour film festival kicks off in a little over 24 hours from now. Tim is playing AD this time around with Paige from Paigeinabook the director. Last year the Writing and script parts where dismal, ended up with alot of unhappy people, and they tried to appease everyone which ended up generating a bad script. even though we did film this script and then Tim and I edited the shit out of it, I'd have to say, visually the product looked stunning.

This year I hope is a little different. I don't know my role in it yet, or if I am going to be apart of it at all, I just know I was told to be on standby the entire weekend.

Little bit of work

A freind of mine allowed me to take photos of her. I took about 3 thousand of them. Of those she chose a few, these are those few.

One thing I learned about during this shoot, clean the fucking walls behind the subject.

Iteresting read...

Found a magazine. American Cinematographer. Very interesting articles in there. I think I am going to subscribe to it. It talks about how some of the big movies where shot. Including the craziness of Crank 2 High voltage and their 10 camera rigs.

As for the film I was working on. It appears to have gotten delayed as the director changed scripts and we never got casting done. We still plan on filming something this weekend though, if for nothing more than practice.

In other news, I have to find a job, yesterday. I am still floating nicely, but would like to get some income flowing so I can take time off to work on future projects. So if any of you 1 readers out there have any suggestions, I would love to hear em.

Headaches

Ok, so we started pre-production to the film. I have everything scheduled out to the hour. I am currently working on screen tests for the special effects that we will be using. Because of this I haven't had time to pick up my camera. I have been editing my bottom off however. I love having deadlines that I must follow and am reminded to follow, and yet those that set these deadlines can sit around and play games instead of getting their own work done. Slightly annoying. We are already one week behind due to story boarding and an unfinished script. Casting is supposed to start in 4 days from this post.

I should start with the photography in full force as the weather starts to get warmer around here. I am sure that I will see some real good stuff as nature starts to come alive.

On a positive note I found some really good material to learn from at tv.adobe.com check them out!

Working hard or hardly working?

Been reading, and reading, and reading. I hate reading. So much to learn in editing, that my head hurts. Found out what this secret project is. Its complete awesomeness. I can not wait to film it. However, before that, I have to get all the pre production work done. Story boarding, casting, script changes. The whole nine yards. It will be a long trip for this one, but well worth it.

Study

It seams that a mysterious project is under way. No one knows what it is, except for Tim. I hate these kinds of projects. in the mean time, I have been just living through the camera lens. Filming everything I can, looking at angles, figuring out how to get shots that seem impossible. as well as watching other filmakers work. Study some of the greats, some of the Academy Award winners. Watch the making of special features. Reading what I can about the films.

Random update

nothing new on the photography front. In filming, though there is a little bit of news. After searching for a script, and realizing no one wanted to let us see what they had written, we decided to write our own script. So that unfortunately means that I have to write it. I am not a writer or claim to be one, so I can't promise anything decent, but heres giving it a try.

Getting things done

Yesterday we decided to make a short film. We chose to do a film on controversy, using the subject of smoking. We wrote, shot, and edited the film in one day. we chose to do it in the style of the Jack Benny show's old Lucky Strike commercials.

A New Year

Ah, 2008 is over and 2009 is here. Spent the last week just getting ready to bring in the new year. Finished the project I was working on for my friends school. Then worked with my room mate and partner in crime to finish our website over at Demand Satisfaction.net. The year looks promising, we have the equipment, we have the experince. Its time to do the work. I hope everyone else's year looks as bright.
